The following is a list of books compiled from Amazon.com bestsellers for 2007, (not Amazon.co.uk), that I believe would be enjoyed by those who have an interest in any of the following subjects; Technology Entrepreneurs and Management Psychology and Philosophy books. (I have no proof, but I expect that everybody give these as gifts to rich entrepreneurs. Perhaps there is a reason for an electronic book reader to be on sale at Amazon. Who wants to dust all those books? Wouldn't look so good if you sold your friends books on Ebay but easy to mislay them from our gadget. Another gadget. This solves the problem of ugly bookcases.)
I've tried my best to group the books into three areas, Philosophy, Entrepreneurial, Workplace Wisdom and Self Improvement. If you like to read what others are reading so you can talk about the same things this list may help. It’s interesting to watch what is listed as being popular and selling at both Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. Amazon.com also lists top 10 Editors Picks for Technology, Business, Business Narratives and customers favorites for Business and Investing and Computers and the Internet. Amazon.co. UK lists its Bestsellers and customers most wished for items
Philosophy
Entrepreneurial
Workplace Wisdom and Self Improvement
If you think you'd like to write and publish your own book, all the tools you need to do this are available at Lulu.com , Blurb.com or Shutterfly ; but don't forget the power of blogs for promoting and selling books on-line. 13 great blogs or 100 web pages filled with content statistically proven to be enjoyed by the viewer gives you an idea that you are well on you way to publishing a great book.
I don't really understand why but I often find myself influenced by the words "buy new" and the images of the front covers I'm more familiar with and the sort order when I shop at Amazon.co.uk.
Some may continue to argue that the best way to sell a book is to give some to all your friends and hope that at least one of them and hopefully all of them makes a big deal about it to their friends. Then you just have to hope the word of mouth continues and you end up with more money in your pocket then you spent trying to make the bestseller list. If on average people only read one book a year what chance have you got that your friend will read yours and the bestseller? The secret has to be finding a way to identify people with the same interests as you. The question then is can social networks help by finding people that read and looking at what they read. If the topic matches do you dare make friends with a stranger who may be male or female, and probably won't look a bit like their on-line picture?
Still, whatever happens, if you choose to self publish through a vanity publisher, at least you can say you left a legacy of a book written by you regardless of your knowledge of the rules of spelling, grammar, and preference on quotation theory.
